By Crystal Price bio emailLAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) The State Department of Education released the 2009/2010 school performance scores to schools throughout the state of Louisiana on Thursday afternoon. These scores are based on test scores, accountability, attendance, and graduate rates. Here are the overall scores for the five different parishes in Southwest Louisiana: Allen (103.8), Beauregard (103.1), Calcasieu (101.9), Cameron (93.1), and Jeff Davis (107.3).Jeff Davis Parish Schools scored the highest district score of all the parishes in the 5 parish region and they scored 7th in the entire state of Louisiana.”We were pleased to grow,” said David Clayton, Superintendent of Jeff Davis Parish Schools. “We showed a growth of 2.3 points from last year score of 105.”Calcasieu Parish climbed from a score of 99.7 to an overall district score of 101.9.”I think for a large district, it a good amount of growth,” said Judith Vail, Accountability Coordinator for Calcasieu Parish Schools. “We would like it to be more but I think we pretty pleased with what it was.”A few schools saw an increase on their baseline scores making Prien Lake Elementary a four star school, and Combre/Fondel Elementary a two star school. However, Ralph Wilson Elementary dropped from a baseline score of 85.0 to 75.7, making this score go from a two star school to a one star.”One reason I think we had growth on our district performance score is that about 40% of our schools met their growth target,” said Vail.

I’ve been thinking about all this a lot since I wrote, a few weeks ago, about how Susan Boyle has been on what I called the “Google Dole” her fame fueled in a nonsensically nonprofit manner by Google’s YouTube unit, which hemorrhages cash serving up too much video with nowhere near enough advertising support. (I’ll again refer you to Benjamin Wayne’s Silicon Alley Insider piece, “YouTube is Doomed,” which deconstructed the recent Credit Suisse report that puts YouTube’s estimated 2009 losses at nearly half a billion dollars.) You’d think a clip of Boyle singing a song from “Les Misrables,” one of the most popular musicals of all time, on one of the most popular TV shows in the world would be semi monetizable. (I mean, geez, at the very least stick a pop up overlay on that video with a link to the “Les Miz” soundtrack on iTunes.) But no.

Had a funny way of pronouncing making it sound like Berkey said. Students would ask him questions so he would repeat the number until the whole class giggled. Kyle would crack a grin and laugh along before gently steering the conversation back to numbers..
